Let’s get real for a second—if your marketing feels a little lackluster, there’s a solid chance you’re playing it too safe. And I get why. Showing up as your unfiltered, opinionated, slightly-sassy self can be terrifying. But here’s the deal: your audience isn’t looking for a polished, professional, “I-speak-like-a-LinkedIn-post” version of you. They’re looking for the real you. The version that makes them say, “Holy crap, she gets me.”

The problem is, we’ve been trained to believe that professionalism equals boring. That being taken seriously means scrubbing every ounce of personality from our messaging and replacing it with vague, generic statements like, I help you build a business you love! (What does that even mean?) But the truth? Playing it safe is keeping you invisible.

If you want people to actually engage with your content, your messaging needs to strike a nerve. You need to challenge industry norms, call out the BS advice that’s keeping your people stuck, and infuse the things you actually say in real life into your marketing. Because if your brand voice sounds nothing like you do in an actual conversation, we’ve got a problem.

The Power of Showing Up Boldly

I know the fear that comes with showing up authentically. What if people don’t like it? What if I turn someone off? What if I get it wrong? But let me flip that for you: What if your dream clients never find you because you’re blending in with every other person in your industry? What if your hesitation is the thing standing between you and the success you actually want?

I’ve seen this time and time again—business owners who are so close to standing out but are still diluting their message just enough to avoid rocking the boat. And guess what? Playing it safe isn’t just boring—it’s forgettable.

If you want people to feel something when they land on your page, your website, or your content, you have to say the things others aren’t saying. Not for shock value, but because it’s what your people need to hear. The people who are meant to work with you? They’re waiting for you to step up and own your expertise.

Your Call to Actions Need a Makeover

Let’s talk about another place I see people playing it safe—your call to action. If your CTA is DM me if you’re interested or Click the link in bio, we need to have a conversation. Because the reality is, people need a compelling reason to take action. And vague CTAs just aren’t cutting it.

Instead of the generic Let’s chat! try:

💡 “Ready to stop overcomplicating your business? Grab my [free guide] and let’s simplify this NOW.”

💡 “If your marketing isn’t converting, we need to fix it—book a strategy session and let’s make it happen.”

See the difference? Your CTA should make it painfully obvious what they get by taking action.

The Bottom Line

If your marketing isn’t working, it’s probably not because you’re bad at it. It’s because you’re holding back. So here’s your challenge: Stop playing it safe. Say the thing. Challenge the norm. Show up as the person your dream clients are actually waiting for. And most importantly? Make sure your marketing feels like YOU.

Because the more YOU you put into your brand, the more the right people will be drawn in. And that’s where the magic happens.
